The centerpiece of AICUP's software programs is the Microsoft Campus Agreement program, managed and accessed through AICUP-endorsed reseller Journey Education Marketing. The Campus Agreement is a renewable contract providing AICUP member institutions access to significantly discounted pricing on widely used Microsoft products, including product upgrades released during the term, and a means of ensuring Microsoft licensing compliance throughout the college or university campus.
Under the Agreement, AICUP member institutions may perform unlimited installations of specified Microsoft software on institutionally-owned or leased personal computers during the one-year term. The computers, on which the software is installed, must be used exclusively by faculty and staff at the institution. However, faculty and staff may use the software off-campus, under the contract's "Take Home Rights," if the software will be used for the purpose of work. In addition, the software may be installed and used on student computers if the institution purchases the "Student Option" add-on. Pricing for the Campus Agreement is based on the number of faculty and staff at the institution, not the number of computers or installations on campus. Likewise, the Student Option is priced using student FTE's.
In August 2007, AICUP renewed the Microsoft Campus Agreement with 52 participating colleges up from 49. Three of these colleges are new to the Microsoft Campus Agreement. Total revenues this year increased to $1.35 million in 2007 from $1.20 million in 2006, despite a 30% price decrease for the Microsoft server products. Participation by faculty/staff FTE rose from 17,958 FTE in 2006 to 20,221 FTE in 2007, an increase of 11%.
As a result of Campus Agreement 3.4, members now have access to Microsoft's Volume Licensing Subscription (MVLS) website providing a link to their campus' unique agreement; "Volume License Key Codes"; free software downloads; "Software Assurance" benefits; and monthly mailings of Microsoft's physical media updates.
