Regional Broadband Collaborative

AICUP members increasingly recognize the need to integrate technology into their core operations to improve efficiency and offer a higher quality product, and many share the need for assistance in the effective application of network technologies. So, AICUP developed the regional broadband collaborative with three main goals:
- Encourage cost-eff ective regional networks linking member colleges
- Use networks to develop and deliver high-quality education services
- Accelerate technology investments in our communities
The establishment of regional networks opens the door for collaborative projects and grant applications for activities
such as shared server applications, emergency communications, data security and shared library resources. The NTIA’s announcement to fund $99.6 million toward a statewide backhaul network through KINBER/PennREN heightens the interest and demand for this collaborative.
In May 2010 the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) approved a second grant of $100,000 to assist AICUP in the deployment of wide area networks (WAN) for three regional networks developed using the earlier DCED grant. AICUP continues to work with three groups of colleges who participate in the following areas:
- Western Region WAN
- Northeastern Region WAN
- Central Region WAN
More information on these regional WANS are available below and to the right.
