AICUP First Year Student Survey

AICUP First Year Student Survey

Every 2 years, AICUP offers the First Year Student Survey to its member institutions.  The purpose of the survey is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each institution's educational and curricular programs from the point of view of students who have recently completed their first year.  This information can be extremely useful for refining freshman year programming to maximize retention, learning outcomes, and student satisfaction for future cohorts of students as well as making programmatic improvements that will enhance the upperclass years for those surveyed.

The survey consists of 34 questions in seven content areas including:  the transition from high school to college, experience with academic advising, and the effect of college on the development of life skills.  Participants also have the option of adding up to 25 additional multiple-choice questions focusing on issues specific to the participating institutions.

The First Year Student Survey will again be offered in Spring 2009.  The survey instrument as well as participation information (ie cost, timelines, etc.) will be provided to AICUP member institutions in the fall. The deadline to participate will be in December 2008.

For question concerning this survey, please contact Ron Uroda or Gayle Funt.
