Every 3 years, AICUP conducts the Home Residence of Students Study, also known as the ZIP Code Study. For this study, AICUP collects the 9 digit ZIP Codes of home residence of undergraduate and graduate students. This information is then used to create summary tables showing how many students who attend independent colleges and universities in Pennsylvania reside in each of the state's legislative districts (U.S. House of Representatives districts and Pennsylvania House and Senate districts) and in each county in Pennsylvania. The aim of this project is to develop support materials for use by AICUP member presidents and government relations staff when they meet with legislators and legislative staff. Every 6 years, home residence of alumni is also collected for the same purpose.
ZIP Code data depicting the home residence of both students and alumni will once again be collected in Fall 2010. AICUP will once again be asking for ZIP+4 codes or home address and 5-digit ZIP codes. Information on the software used to determine ZIP+4 Codes using home addresses can be found at http://www.semaphorecorp.com/cgi/zp4.html.
